Interactive Employment Training Presents...

What Supervisors Need To Know About Discriminatory Harassment

The course instructs employees about discriminatory harassment prevention through an engaging interactive model. The course provides superior subject matter content in conjunction with excellent instructional design and compelling graphics, all delivered at a low bandwidth. The result is a highly engaging and dynamic web-based training that both reduces workplace harassment and helps create affirmative defenses, which can be tied to our compliance-oriented tracking tool and/or any learning management system. The course is currently being used by AIG as well as the US Department of Justice, Guinness UDV, Charter Communications and others.

Background

In 2000, Interactive Employment Training, Inc., (IET) co-developed our new online program with AIG. AIG provided its multimedia instructional design experts and human resources insight, which helped make the course more practical and easy to administer. AIG has informed us that they believe this course is one of the best online courses they have seen, on any subject.

General Course Information

The high level of interactivity draws in even the most reluctant online learner. Instructions to the user at any level are clear and concise, if not intuitive. Our built-in reference folders, Help, Basics, Info and Review, are available to be accessed at any point in the course should the user have a question, facilitating dynamic learning. Our powerful administration tool tracks employees' progress through the course. A report of employees who have completed the course may be sent on a quarterly basis and available over the Internet in real time. IET has developed a unique upload tool enabling organizations to send us a simple text file with all employee names and e-mails. Employees are notified by e-mail and they begin their training at their own convenience.

The course is designed to instruct supervisors how to identify potential problems related to discriminatory harassment and to follow the company’s discriminatory harassment policy. This online course was authored by employment lawyers Robert Lipman and Allison Plesur and developed with a team of instructional designers and interactive architects. IET’s employment law team helps employers customize an online discriminatory harassment prevention solution. Customization of the course, which is encouraged, may include a message from a top executive as well as the organization's Discriminatory Harassment Policy. IET also has created a non-supervisor version of the course.

Course Description

Eleven scenarios are presented illustrating a variety of discriminatory harassment themes. These scenarios vividly re-enact situations that every employee could face, not just a re-telling of company policies or the law. Employees are asked questions in each scenario through a number of office devices such as simulated e-mail and inter-office memos. Correct and incorrect answers are explained. After the employees have completed the course, they are given a short test to reinforce concepts learned, which expands based on the number of incorrect answers.

The course is introduced with a title screen which includes the organization's name, logo and any other pertinent information. The course becomes a vehicle through which an organization's strong commitment to discriminatory harassment prevention is communicated. A statement from a high level executive can be included in the course utilizing digital audio or video technology or using simple text and pictures. The course can include the organization's discriminatory harassment policy.
